Lettuce 'Paris Island Cos' (Romaine) | Lactuca sativa | Seeds | Heirloom | Non-GMO | 500 Seeds
A staple in heirloom gardens, Paris Island Cos (sometimes known as Paris Landing) is a romaine-type lettuce with tall, crisp heads and dark green leaves that are sweet, tender, and packed with nutrients. Slow to bolt and highly productive, it grows beautifully in spring and fall, and thrives in raised beds or containers with good sun and steady moisture.
Perfect for Caesar salads, wraps, and garden-to-table greens.
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner-Friendly
Paris Island Cos grows quickly, holds up well in the garden, and resists bolting in cool conditions—making it an excellent choice for first-time growers.
Pollinator Friendly:
• Attracts beneficial insects if allowed to flower
Planting & Care Details:
• Light: Full Sun to Partial Shade
• Plant Height: 10–12"
• Spacing: 6–10" apart
• Watering: Keep soil consistently moist for best leaf texture
• Soil: Loose, fertile, and well-drained
• Frost Tolerance: Excellent – cool season crop
• Zones: 3–9
GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Direct sow as soon as soil can be worked in spring. Plant ¼" deep, 1" apart in rows. Thin to final spacing once true leaves appear. Germinates in 7–10 days at 60–65°F.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
• Harvest outer leaves young for baby greens, or wait for full heads
• Provide afternoon shade in warmer zones to extend harvest
• Succession sow every 2–3 weeks for a steady supply
• Grows well with radishes, carrots, and chives
